Help Us Make It THREE Wells!

Smiles from the first well will be increased by the thousands!

Smiles from the first well will be increased by the thousands!

Earlier this month I told you about a special opportunity we have to drill 4 to 6 wells in Gombe State, Nigeria for only $3000 each. The first of those wells is pumping crystal clear water for the Sansani Village. Funds have now been made available for a second well and we are only $558.83 away from having enough to drill a THIRD well!

I will be making the wire transfer of funds for the second well on August 29th. We are asking God to use someone(s), a church, Bible class, or business to help us with the $558.83 balance we need for the third well so we can wire these funds also.

Will you help us spread the word? Donating is easy. Click HERE and then the DONATE button. Or because of the short time if you donate by check to 118 Wessington Place, Hendersonville, TN 37075 also send me an email and let me know your check is in the mail: leehodges45@gmail.com.

YOU CAN CHANGE THOUSANDS OF LIVES WITH JUST THIS SMALL AMOUNT!

Over the last few months our Director of Operations Rambi Ayala has been working with government officials and local drilling companies in Gombe State, Nigeria to negotiate the best price for drilling a well. When we moved our base of operation here almost three years ago we realized there was a great need in many of the rural villages for potable water. We have been able to reach

an agreement with the local drilling company to drill wells in 4 to 6 villages for only $3,000 each. The $3,000 dollar price is half the normal charge of $6,000. The targeted villages are those with the greatest need for clean water.

Due to the generosity of a lady in Texas we began drilling the first well in the village of Sansani on August 5th. This village and surrounding areas have a population of 15,000 people. Their only water source before we arrived was a shallow well dug by hand in February of 1945, 4 months before I was born, 68 years ago. This shallow well was often contaminated by seepage of unclean ground water resulting in sickness and death.

I received a phone call from Rambi this morning (August 6th.) with the news that the well is finished and clean water in available in Sansani Village! The drillers worked through the night and finished at 3:30am.

The new well is sealed and has a hand pump. This is so much better that the sections of inner tubes sewn into a makeshift bucket lowered by rope and them drawn up by hand.

The other villages needing a well are of similar size and are faced with the same challenges as the people in Sansani Village.

This is a wonderful opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of

thousands of people in need. There are many ways to help but one of the greatest is to make a donation yourself and then spread the word to your friends, your church group or neighbors. All donations for wells will be used for wells. You may give at our website: www.hopespringsint.com or by mail to Hope Springs International, 118 Wessington Place, Hendersonville, TN 37075.

Doubling the Blessing

???????????????????????????????Have you ever ordered yourself a meal and then found out you got a free dessert? How about receiving a gift you expected and then upon opening it discovered that the giver packed a little something else just to surprise you? It’s a wonderful feeling to be blessed more than you believed.

Hope Spring International is sending a blessing down to Dono-Manga, Chad in the form of a portable well drilling machine and a generator. This alone is more than a blessing to the people so desperate for clean water, but we have a chance to double that blessing in a unique way. Isn’t it wonderful when we see an opportunity that allows us to show the love, generosity and understanding of a people of Christ from across the ocean?

A shipping container containing this portable well drilling machine and generator will be on its way soon, but there is plenty of room left in this container for more blessings.

New rig has been tested and ready to ship!

The school children in Dono-Manga, Chad are learning English and what if they were standing by the adults unpacking this equipment and saw loads of Children’s books, writing tablets, chalk, pens, pencils and other school supplies? How big do you think those children’s smiles would be to receive gifts?

Although this is easily accomplished by single contributions, Hope Springs International would like to issue a challenge to double the blessing to our communities, schools, churches and other groups who feel led to help us fill the empty spaces of the container with gifts of love.

Just a part of the 600+ kids in our school in Dono-Manga

Crossfit Hendersonville to make last installment on pledge

In January of this year Lindsey McDuffie and the members of Crossfit Hendersonville made a commitment to provide $10,000.00 to help ship our new portable well drilling rig to Dono-Manga, Chad in Central Africa. In May they presented Hope Springs with a check for $6,000.00 and said they would have the rest by the end of September. This week I received an invitation from Lindsey to join them on Friday September 7th when they will present Hope Springs with their final installment.

May 2012 presentation.

Since 2009 Hope Springs’ projects have rehabbed 26 out-of-service wells, and drilled 35 new wells bringing clean water to an estimated 91,000 people. Shipping this new rig to Chad will enable us to drill many more wells in target villages throughout southern Chad. Each time we add a new well another 1500 people on average receive safe drinking water. We deeply appreciate the efforts of Lindsey McDuffie and CrossFit Hendersonville, and their decision to bring lasting change to a small part of our world. Hope Springs International Receives Check For $6,000 From CrossFit Hendersonville.

CrossFit Hendersonville is all about physical fitness, but for many of its members it’s also about making a difference in their community and the world. In January of this year owner Lindsey McDuffie and a group of there members made a commitment to help Hope Springs International ship our recently purchased well drilling rig to Chad, Central Africa. At that time we estimated the cost would be $10,000. Lindsey said, “We can do that”! On Saturday May 19th. Lindsey presented Hope Springs International with their first installment of $6,000. From July through September events will be held to raise the balance needed to reach their goal. As you can see the “can do” spirit that permeates this group applies to more than just physical fitness.

Since 2009 Hope Springs’ projects have rehabbed 26 out-of-service wells, and drilled 35 new wells bringing clean water to an estimated 91,000 people. Test Drill Met And Surpassed Our Expectations

Picture taken by Julie Tracy

On Saturday March 3rd. we did a test drill with our new well drilling rig. I am excited to report that this new unit met and surpassed our expectations. While we did not drill a well we drilled a test hole of about 16 feet. We encountered rock soon after the test drill began (approximately 8 feet of rock). The diamond bit cut through this rock layer with no difficulty at all. In Chad there is minimal rock to deal with as it is a marsh, sandy type soil, much like southern Alabama and Florida.

This trailer mounted rig has the potential to drilling hundreds of deep water wells. We estimate it will cost about $10,000.00 to ship this unit to southern Chad.  The shipping container will cost an additional $2,600.00. The sooner we can get this unit to Chad, the sooner we can begin opening new wells.

Tim King and his wife Charlotte owners of Hydra Fab Inc., the company that manufactured this unit, came from southern Alabama to answer any questions and provide more information about their machines. Hydra Fab manufactures a smaller unit that we belief will also have an

Small unit to be donated by Hydra Fab Inc.

application in Chad. Tim surprised us all by telling us that he and Charlotte are going to donate one of their small rigs when we get ready to ship everything to Chad. They also pledged that they will provide a supply of spare parts for the machines as well, all at no charge. God truly blessed us in leading us to this company. Presently they have over 100 of their units now drilling wells in Africa.

The average cost of drilling a well in Africa is from $5,000.00 to $8,000.00. With our new machine we estimate that the cost of a well will run between $2,000.00 and $3,000.00, possibly less. Each well will meet the needs of about 1500 to 2000 people. A well reduces dramatically the 50% infant death rate in children under the age of 5, and reduces sickness and disease in village populations where 60% will be sick numerous times during the year because there is no safe water available.

Help us get these new units to Chad. Send your gifts to Hope Springs International, 118 Wessington Place, Hendersonville, TN 37075, or donate online at: http://www.hopespringsint.com.

WE ARE EXCITED ABOUT NEW POSSIBILITIES FOR WELL DRILLING IN CHAD

Dalvin Pirtle and Lee Hodges, President of Hope Springs International,  traveled to Phenix City, Alabama on Friday to visit with Hydra Fab Manufacturing Inc. They found a quality family owned company that has great equipment that they believe will increase our well drilling capacity in the nation of Chad and possibly other nations as well. Check out the video below. This is one of the portable trailer mounted rigs Hydra Fab manufactures and one of the varieties that is being considered by Hope Springs. Dalvin and Lee saw a demonstration of the tractor mounted 3 point hitch model during their visit yesterday. While these units are not suitable for drilling through very hard material like granite, they can handle limestone and other types of very hard material. Reaching and working in remote areas can now be done with out depending on very large and expensive types of equipment. These units are capable of drilling hundreds of wells and the few replacement parts needed from time to time are readily available from most anywhere. Hydra Fab has their units in operation in Africa and other countries throughout the world. These rigs are available for a fraction of the cost of the commercial truck mounted rigs that can cost as much as $250,000.
